Today is the final race day for the Nationals - it's the distance classic day! Race start is 9:00 AM and races should finish around 3:00. Recreational skiers are encouraged to use the Dog parking lot or ask at The Ski Base for which trails and access points should be used during the races.
Saturday night grooming of recreational trails involved Dog, Copper to Crossroads, Selwyn's Loop, Lower Valley, and Upper Valley. These trails are in very good to excellent condition for classic and skating.
Copper to the Haul Road was groomed Friday night. Coyote, Lynx, Whisky Jack, World Cup 10K and 5K are in very good to excellent condition. Copper Haul Road and Powerline are very good for classic or skating.
The McIntyre Ascent was groomed Thursday morning and is very good for classic skiing. Skating is not recommended on the Ascent. The Descent is good but use caution at all times.
Recreational skiers are welcome to ski during The Nationals, but should be aware that the race course will vary from day to day.
Please contact the Ski Base for information on which trails are closed. Accessing the trails via the Dog Trail parking lot will be permitted every day. The Wax Room is open to recreational skiers at all times. All waxing for the Nationals is being done in the big waxing tent in the Canada Games Parking Lot.
Pedestrians must follow the designated path between the Canada Games Centre and Mt McIntyre Recreation Centre.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS- In icy conditions, control speed on all downhills or walk down when in doubt.
- If skiing alone, take a cell phone, or let somebody know your route and time of return.
- Do not count on assistance as there is not a scheduled trail patrol
- Take precautions in case of injury or equipment failure. Carry matches, a spare toque, jacket and food.
- There are emergency boxes located at Harvey’s Hut, Fireweed Hut and Sarah Steele Hut. The boxes contain warm clothing and fire lighting material.
The stadium area is closed to dogs until March 25 to accommodate the Haywood Nationals and the Whitehorse School Challenge. Please use the Dog Trail parking lot and keep dogs on a leash in the parking lot and close to the race courses. Day pass or membership required to use Dog Trail.
