Subway Ski S'Cool Program

Subway Ski S'Cool has wrapped up for another very successful season despite mother nature's best attempts at running interference. A total of 618 students form 35 Kindergarten to Grade 2 classes were registered for a series of three lessons introducing them to cross country skiing. Cold weather forced the postponement or cancellation of many lessons and unfortunately a few classes were not able to complete all three. Many positive compliments were received from students, teachers and parents . Some examples: "Can we come for another class?", "I can't believe that kids get to learn skiing for school" and "what a wonderful program, we will be back next year".

Ski S'Cool staff included instructors Sarah Ouellette, Wendy Nixon and Mike Gladish, Program coordinator Phil Hoffman and assistance from Kristin Daniel, Caelen McLean, and Raphaelle Couratin.

Stantec Lynx Program

Stantec Lynx Squad offers skiers aged 8-13 a program of fun and fitness on skis once per week for 13 weeks of the ski season. Nineteen skiers enjoyed sessions fine tuning their classic and skate ski skills while exploring the trail network at Whitehorse Nordic Centre.  Lynx Squad is designed for skiers not interested in racing but want something more than an outing with mom and dad. Leaders Justine Scheck, Dan Reimer, Lauren Dieckmann and Phil Hoffman guided the keen skiers on challenging outings every Wednesday. If there was only one cold day each week it seemed to be Wednesday, however snowshoes replaced skis only once when the weather was too cold for skiing.
