Ski Timing Training

Have you ever wondered how the results of a ski race are made official? Or what goes on in the Timing Hut, or at the Start and Finish of a ski race? Join us for a 2-part training opportunity – a Timing Skills Workshop on Tuesday, March 7, followed by real-life timing of the Yukon Championships on Saturday, March 11. Anybody with an interest in timing is welcome!

Timing is a critical part of ski races - the more people we have with basic expertise, the more effectively we can time the races and the less work it is for each person over the race season.  Please consider getting involved as a timer!

Part 1: Timing Skills Workshop

Date: Tuesday, March 7, 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Location: Canada Games Centre (large boardroom)

This session will provide an overview of ski race timing (timing equipment, roles & responsibilities, race formats). It will include mock races for you to get hands-on skills practice and tips from experienced timers in preparation for Part 2.

Part 2: Yukon Championships

Date: Saturday, March 11, 11:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Location: Mt McIntyre Recreation Centre (Timing Hut, Ski Stadium)

Working alongside experienced timers, you will be part of the Start, Lap, Finish or Computer teams which will time the fun, year-end Yukon Championships race.
